“30 flirty and thriving.” That quote from one of my favorite adolescent movies, 13 going on 30 always stuck in my head. I never really dreaded the dirty 30 birthday because I had Jennifer Garner’s character from that movie in my head. She was fabulous, successful, beautiful and full of energy and positivity! I know turning 30 does not mean that I am the wisest gal here, but I have learned some hard lessons and want to share my top 30 life tips that I’ve learned along the way.
One: Just because you are 30 or beyond, and not quite where you thought you would be in your life doesn’t mean squat. Be proud of the journey you have taken so far. Everyone gets to their goal differently.
Two: Calm down about your finances. Everyone always says by 30 you should have so much saved in a 401K and should have a house etc. Relax.
Three: It’s okay to change your career path. My husband is a true testament of this. He was a professional photographer and got pretty burnt out by the industry and was clearly un happy. He did a total 180 and went back to school to become a Doctor of Optometry. He will finally graduate this May of 2019 and is in his late 30’s. It is never too late to start anything.
Four: Always continue to work out and strive to be your best healthy self. I have definitely noticed I’m not in the “dancer” shape I was in at 18 however, I feel pretty good because I continue to take care of my body.
Five: Now that I am 30, I am so happy that I really have finally begun to stop caring so much about what other people think. You do you.
Six: Learn to forgive, maybe not forget, but move on. Don’t dwell too much on the people that may have hurt you in your life. They have only made you stronger.
Seven: Cut ties from people that do not make you happy or lift you up. Anyone that makes you feel insignificant, cut them loose and never look back. Life is too short to stay at a job or a relationship that makes you quite literally feel like shit.
Eight: Relax about the wrinkles. We all will get fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. They give you character. However, don’t feel bad about using anti-aging creams or heck even getting some botox. You do you.
Nine: Learn to stay positive. Always try to see the glass half full. Life is so unexpected and things will happen that you really did not see coming. Rather than let it affect your life, try to see the positives in the negatives.
Ten: Love yourself more.
Eleven: Save your money. Yes, I love nice things, and love to shop. The older I get though, I’m realizing that material objects come and go. Save your money for travel and experiences.
Twelve: Don’t let a bad day or a bad experience with someone ruin how you treat the next person you meet.
Thirteen: Be confident in who you are and where you want to go. Always stand tall and straight and let it shine thru.
Fourteen: Face your fears head on. There are always those things we don’t want to do, practice facing them head on. You will feel so much better when you have.
Fifteen: Read more books and unplug from social media from time to time.
Sixteen: Call you parents, grandparents and friends. Yes the phone goes both ways, but keep those relationships strong.
Seventeen: Celebrate your success even the small wins, and learn from your failures. Failure is not a bad thing, it is a part of growth.
Eighteen: Be more adventurous. Step out of your comfort zone as much as you can. You will surprise yourself with what you can accomplish or even simply discover something that you like when you thought you wouldn’t.
Nineteen: Try not to hold grudges. They will literally eat you up inside.
Twenty: Ask for what you want. You may actually get it.
Twenty One: It’s okay if you didn’t clean your dishes before bed, or put away your laundry the day you cleaned it. Cut yourself a break.
Twenty Two: Stop comparing your life to others.
Twenty Three: Don’t frown, it will give you wrinkles and lines. Smile more! My grandma always said this and I never forgot it!
Twenty Four: Practice Consistency. Whether this be in your profession, with your family or health. If you do this and stick to it, you will see results and be successful.
Twenty Five: Being passive never got anybody anywhere. Be bold and speak the your truth.
Twenty Six: Eat chocolate or have a cookie or a piece of cake. It won’t kill you, it will make you happy.
Twenty Seven: Help and support your friends in their endeavors. “Real queens fix each other’s crowns.”
Twenty Eight: Travel and experience as many new things and places as you can. Those are the memories that will stick with you the most.
Twenty Nine: Always get back on the horse. Never give up on something that you want.
Thirty: Be your bad ass self always.
Girl how cool is this! I absolutely loved everyone of them! I can’t even pick a favorite because they were all so dang good! The only one that gets harder for me as I age is to relax about the wrinkles! This gets harder and harder as I age! I just can’t help it, I severely dislike them lol!!! But I really appreciate the advice and this was great!
Aw I’m glad you liked it! I had fun writing this one. It was a good reflection for me too. 🙂 xoxo
You got some amazing wisdom and I’m right behind you about to hit the 30 bus as well! I’ll definitely take on these tips, for sure!
